Shao-lin Kung Fu
Looking for a program with a kick? Then you are looking for Shao-lin Kung Fu.
Shao-lin Kung Fu is a term that describes the full variety of martial arts skills that were developed and preserved at the Shao-lin Temples in China. The Buddhist monks began their Shao-lin training in the 6th century. The Monks expanded and developed this idea of physical and martial arts training over the next 1500 years into an amazingly broad repertoire of fighting styles and training practices.
The monks designed an extremely well-rounded and engaging physical, mental and martial system of training. They found that their well balanced training practices were extremely effective for keeping their bodies strong, their health vibrant and their minds sharp throughout the entirety of their exceptionally long lives.
The program begins with a warm up to focus the mind and center the body. Participants then work on a few basic Kung Fu strikes with partners and a striking shield. The unity of posture, breathing and focus to produce powerful strikes is emphasized. They will apply what they just learned towards learning the traditional 'long form', focusing on speed, accuracy, power, and strategy. Participants then progress to 'internal' Shao-lin training to balance the harder, more 'external' athletic training just experienced. This balance of hard and soft is at the root of Shao-lin training. The program concludes with a demonstration by the masters. The participants have an opportunity to see that focused, efficient and consistent training over a longer period of time will yield dynamic and powerful results.
The debriefs that accompany Shao-lin Kung Fu combines eastern philosophy with high performance team building to demonstrate and ingrain the structural foundations of “team” into the hearts and minds of the participants.
