Adventure Based Activities
Adventure based activities create high-impact learning environments by moving groups outside their comfort zone. Participants are challenged physically and mentally by activities designed to simulate various aspects of high performance teams.
A sense of community and purpose is established by evoking the trust and esprit-de-corps that comes from challenging and fun experiences performed collectively. Participants are more willing to take calculated risks in their daily lives after experiencing the sense of accomplishment and well being resulting from the day's events.
Debriefing the activity is an important part of the training. Our team of facilitators will lead a discussion after the activity to reinforce the deeper significance of the group's experiences, including goal setting, effective communication, collaboration, role definition, leadership, problem solving, trust, and risk taking.
Raft Building
Participants build a make-shift raft that can support two or more people. Each team is provided with resources to design and build their vessel. Healthy competition provides for a fun and exciting activity as each team attempts to paddle their raft out to the dock and back. Individuals choose how they would like to participate. Inevitably, one or more rafts, though sturdy in theory, do not prove seaworthy--and it always provides for a laugh!
High and Low Ropes
High-rope activities take place on wires strung across a course 15-50 feet in the air. Low-rope activities take place close to ground level. Individuals are required to complete a series of maneuvers on the ropes. There are usually 1-6 people off the ground at a time, each wearing a harness and helmet and connected to a safety rope. A safety system is manned on the ground by members of the team and under the close scrutiny of a trained instructor. Critical team competencies such as trust, effective communication, risk-taking, goal setting, leadership, and collaboration are practiced and refined. Some participants have claimed that their participation in a rope course was life altering.
